This place reminds me somewhat of a Johnny Rockets... nostalgic diner serving up burgers and shakes. The waitress was extremely nice and quite helpful. I had to read through the menu a couple of times because everything looked so good to me. The theme for the night ended up being a 'butter' theme... not intentional at all. I finally decided on the Wisconsin buttery burger. Strange combination for some but I do love butter on my meat! It consisted of two meat patties with cheese, grilled onions and butter. For fifty nine cents more, I switched my french fries for onion rings instead. I felt that it was such a scant portion of onion rings but they were nice and crunchy. The star of the evening ended up being the butter pecan shake. YUM! This was such a delicious sweet treat with surprising little bits of crunchy pecans. I want to come back to try the limited caramel apple shake but this one was so good that I might have to reorder a butter pecan shake. This place might mean more to me than the locals because there are no locations in Cali. I must return to try other items on the menu. Hopefully I won't be having any cravings for this place once I'm back on the west coast!

Ah, the last 24 hour restaurant on the island... (No, Denny's doesn't count, it's the devil.) My daughter and I love this place. ...usually. The burgers are great! ...as long as you don't get a single. That's like half of a McDonald's McDouble patty. Can't even taste it. Get the double, at least, and then it'll be great. The fries are terrible. Unless you get one of the seasoned fries, then they're okay. Not sure what it is about them, but they're super bland. The shakes are the best around. I've never had a 'powdery' shake from Steak 'n Shake, and I don't trust anyone who says they have, The ultimate banana is my favorite. Sweet tea depends on the person who made it... It sucks when the tea is foul, which isn't often, but it's worse when the tea is unsweetened. The people from the Artic or whatever crazy place people come from that don't understand how tea works are always like, 'Oh, here's a packet of Splenda to sweeten it.' Dude, it takes like 400 stirs to get sugar to dissolve in cold tea, and Splenda isn't sugar! I say as I slap them with the packet like a glove, initiating a duel to the death...they never accept though. Besides...a packet? Needs at least 6 teaspoons... Service is kinda shaky. One visit we'll have an attentive server, who seems like they're enjoying their life. The next, it'll be no-smiles-mc-hates-the-world who does that passing question thing that drives me insane. Where they don't look at you and just say 'everything ok' as they walk past you. Then I have to slowly scoot my cup to the edge of the table, until it's one light breeze from falling onto the ground and then they snatch it as they walk by to refill it. I suppose that can happen anywhere, but Steak 'n Shake is our happy place, so I guess I notice it more there. Usually though, it's great! Also, be prepared for a looooong wait in the drive-through.

Love Steak 'n Shake. I don't live within their footprint now, so I always add it to our list when in town. This visit I strayed from the usual steak burger to the taco salad I spotted on the $4 meal menu. It was really, really good. The presentation was pretty, which caught my eye while passing another table on the way to ours. Lettuce on the bottom, with red tortilla straps, tomato, mixed shredded cheese, ground beef (or chicken), and drizzled a sauce that tasted like ranch. I caved and ordered my favorite shake, a malted chocolate. It came in a tall shake glass. The shake was topped with whipped cream and a cherry. It wasn't served with a silver cup, as in years past. The shake was excellent. They provide a spoon and straw, so I opted to slowly sip the thick shake using the straw. The others in my party ordered the steak burgers with fries. My husband always gets the cheese fries, then sprinkles the seasoned salt on it. Yummy! The new $4 menu is really a deal. Where else can you get a steak burger and fries for $4? New to the menu for me are mini burgers, and a wide assortment of burgers with different toppings, such as bacon and guacamole. For me the original steak burger, and now the taco salad, will always be my favorites.

Breakfast is very affordable and pretty good! Lunch and dinner are okay, milkshakes are great and with kids eat free on weekends it is really affordable! Service can be sketch sometimes!

This is our go to place when we want good food, service and low prices. Their $4 menu can't be beat. Now as for the place, I have eaten at several Steak n Shakes in my time and this one is by far the best. They recognize us as regulars and we always get good service and the food is great. Our server Lily was very personable and friendly and stayed on top of drink refills. We only had one experience where we had to wait a while to be seated and get our food but to be fair it was very busy and the place was packed. But we have never gotten a bad or cold meal.

I like the place because it is simple, inexpensive, fast, and the food is good! The place can get real busy at times and the staff seems run down at times as well but all in all I like it!

I give this place 3 stars because it was clean. It took them a little longer than it should have to seat us as they were not busy because we beat the lunch crowd. We ordered off of the $4 menu thinking it would be faster. Wrong. Not only was it not faster the quality of the food was terrible. The fries were frozen shoestring fries that had been cooked sometime around opening and left under the heat lamp that must of had a bulb not working. My burger wasn't even warm enough to melt the cheese it had on it. I don't think I will be making the trip to eat there again.

This review is based on a recent weekend breakfast visit. The service was very, very slow. I couldn't tell if they were just very shorthanded, but everything took forever. When we got our food, everyone said that their hash browns were barely warm and just looked like a pile of burnt potatoes. No seasoning. No buttery crunchy crust. Really bad. The eggs weren't received much better. The side of bacon was thin, limp and swimming in a puddle of grease in the dish. I had their biscuits & gravy and it was OK. Really just OK, though. But others agreed it was the best thing on the table. I guess you get what you pay for, because it is pretty inexpensive to have breakfast here. I think I'll spend a bit more and skip it in the future if we want to go out for breakfast.

Tasty burger here. No disappointment but not in a hurry for a repeat. You want a great burger fast.....go here. Second time was not as good as the first time.

This is the best burger joint on the planet!! A triple w fries for 4 bucks? Really ? Oh yeah did you want a huge variety of awesome shakes as well? You cannot beat the value at this place. The only negative for me was the long drive thru time , but hey with the value and nice service I'll wait a few more minutes !! Can't say enough good about sns. Another thing is the 24/7 hrs!! I think I'm going to go get me a burger now ! Ltr

Really tasty burger!!! You can't beat the price either. Everything was 4 dollars ! How awesome is that!! We all loved the fries. They were thin and crispy and not too oily or salty. My son had a chocolate fudge brownie shake. My daughter had vanilla. While hers was good, my sons was really great. The service was a little on the slow side and if we were in a rush, would have been an issue. But we weren't and the place was busy so a little extra time didn't bother us too much. They gave my daughter a paper hat, crayons and a toy car. She was thrilled. I would love to go back and try the chili dog or a specialty burger. Everything looked so good. Next time we're in town we will be back for lunch.

I was driving through this area on a recent Saturday evening, I happened to spot this Steak & Shake restaurant on my way to my hotel and remembered that someone mentioned in a recent Yelp talk thread that their shakes were very good. I went through the drive through and ordered a Portobello and Swiss Steakburger, fries and a vanilla shake. Everything was very tasty, really hit the spot, portions weren't too large, and at about $7.50 for everything the price was definitely right! I only wish they had a Steak & Shake a bit closer to my 'hood!

I have eaten at this Steak n Shake for many years, and it's only today that I realized I haven't yelped it. Well, here goes... Food is always good, I have never had a problem here, never. Whether its burgers, salad, or just shakes, I have never been disappointed. Service, hmm...I think only once did we have bad service - so, for hiring mostly young kids and adults, they do a pretty good job of finding the good ones. This place lives in the tradition of my family for visiting it after a late-night movie to go over it while slurping a tall, cold shake...ah, good memories and times indeed.

Awesome food here. The inside seating can take a while sometimes and the parking lot is odd to enter from some directions, but those are not enough to frop this place a star. What I did drop a star for was my recent experiences in the drive-thru. On at least 3 ocassions I have ordered something, repeated the order, heard them repeat it and ended up with something wrong in my bag. Sometimes I get charged, sometimes not. I've never had a problem inside though. Just make sure you look in your bag before you pull away!

I always order the same thing: frisco melt with shoestring fries, a glass of water, and a milkshake. I haven't tried them all but I'm pretty certain that every flavor milkshake is perfection. I'm taking off one star because the melts are not always of the same calibre. On my last visit, it was rather greasy. It was up there on the greasy scale. Like kill you of a heart attack, scale of greasy. The waitstaff has always been awesome at this location. I think the turnover might be high but they always seem to hire really nice people

Food is usually good, just like any other steak and shake. The service is sometimes great but a lot of the time not so much. Also sometimes a bit messy and un-orderly. I'd recommend not going during their popular hours.

My husband and I recently took some of our family from Mexico here to enjoy some good ol' American classics. I have been here before, and while I do enjoy their burgers and milkshakes, I can't say that this is my favorite restaurant or that is the best of its kind. However, I had not been here in ages and it baffled me how packed this place was! Every single table was filled with families and smiling kids, so I know they must be doing something right. On this particular day I had some fries with a Vanilla Brownie milkshake, and it was fantastic all around! I mean how can you go wrong with that perfect mix???? The service was also pretty decent, but not the best one I've had. This is overall an ok place to take the kids or to get a milkshake through the drive-thru, but is not somewhere I would hang out at a regular basis.

A favorite of everyone even my dog Jack who celebrated his eighth birthday today by getting his favorite Steak and shake milkshake!

Steak and Shake was exactly what I expected. They are a step above your usual fast food, but they are still fast food. Normally I actively avoid even the best of the worst fast food, but I was told their shakes are actually pretty good. (They aren't.) I ended up getting some bbq sliders and a coffee milkshake. The milkshakes are clearly made from some kind of mix, and don't have the consistency of ice cream. The burgers actually weren't that bad, but were by no means good either. Overall, MEH, but they're open late if you are into that kind of thing.

We needed a good late night place to go & trusting the yelp reviews it was between here and hooters. Everything else open after 10 had 3 or less stars. There aren't that many people here, but we waited a long time for our drinks. The manager came out after we ordered and informed us they where out of ingredients for the philly steak burger my date ordered. He didn't mind ordering the mushroom Swiss burger in its place. The manager offered him a free shake & since he doesn't do sweets I chose the salted caramel pretzel shake. Our food came at a decent time. The BBQ burger doesn't look like the picture, but it was good. It could have used more sauce & the "fried onions" are like the chips you put on green bean casserole. The waitress asked if we needed anything else when she brought us our food, but didn't come back during our meal to see if we needed anything. I would have loved some more sauce. The burger wasn't that filling, but it was good & better than hooters. I'm slightly disappointed in my experience tonight, but not enough to not come back.

Oh jeeez this place is good. These aren't gourmet burgers in the restaurant fancy sense, but if you're looking for a 50's diner and fast food, it will knock your socks off. The burger I had was steak with guacamole and served on a really delicious bun. The fries are good too. The service was attentive but not obtrusive. The shake..omg.. Chocolate chip cookie dough with whipped cream and a cherry on top. I could have died. Definitely coming back here.

I had the guacamole double stack steakburger (w/o cheese) and it was the bomb! My friends and I thought the fries were wimpy but effectively, they help pick your teeth so you can enjoy every chunk of burger stuck in there. It was a very enjoyable, quality hamburger. I kind of wish I had a shake but the serving looked way too big for me to finish; I probably should've asked for the kid size or something, oh well.
